Identity concepts for an African adventure bike race

The Rhino Run is an unsupported gravel bike-packing race across Africa, from Namibia to South Africa. Created by Ryan Flinn (a.k.a "Rhino") at Curve Cycling, it's a unique event with a charitable cause. Learn more at rhino-run.com.

We explored a few options for a brand refresh with the aim of improving practicality across touch-points and strengthening the impact and recognition. A different route was decided on, sadly, but we felt it was wrong to keep this particular Rhino from the wild plains of the internet. Be free, little Rhino!

APPROACH & DETAIL

We leaned into the angular, weirdly wonderful shape of a White Rhino, which led the way for the custom typography. Big, bold and sharp-cornered to mimic our Rhino emblem. The mighty horn leads the way, echoing the tri-bars often used in long-distance cycling. A fearless tone sets the mood, inspiring any participant considering this race to take on an adventure of a lifetime.
